Success for ChessPoint Juniors at the NSCA Junior County Championships

Max Miller won the Under-16 Championship (at the age of 12!)

Vignesh Sudhakar won the Under-11 Championship

Krishna Srinivasan won the Under-10 Championship

Samantha Childs won the award for Best Girl in the Under-9 section

Success for ChessPoint Juniors in the 2014-2015 NSCA Grand Prix

10 ChessPoint juniors participated in the annual SSAFA tournament, which was the final event of the 2014-2015 NSCA Grand Prix, held on 20th June 2015 in Wellingborough.

Krishna Srinivasan won the Under-9 Grand Prix.

Patrick Gibbons was the Under-10 Grand Prix Winner and Under-10 Best Boy. Vignesh Sudhakar was the Under-10 Grand Prix runner-up.

All there scored 4½ points from 6 games in the final event.

Troy Anderson also won a trophy for the Under-9 team.

Success for ChessPoint at the 2015 NSCA Championships

(Played at the Malcolm Arnold Academy on 7th February 2015)

10 juniors from ChessPoint participated in the Northamptonshire Schools Chess Association (NSCA) County Championships at the Malcolm Arnold Academy in Northampton on 7th February 2015.

The standout performances came from Krishna Srinivasan and Max Miller (pictured below), who retained their titles of under 9 County Champion and under 11 County Champion respectively. They each scored 6 points from 6 games.

This was not the only award for Max Miller. Before the competition started, he received a special award from John Warren (pictured below), recognising his achievements during the past year, particulary his selection for the England team in the recent World Schools Chess Championships in Brazil.

Max Miller Excels at World Schools Chess Championships in Brazil

Max Miller scored an impressive 5½ points from 9 games in the Under-11 section of the World Schools Chess Championships, to finish 19th out of 75 competitors. The competition took place in Juiz de Fora, Brazil from 26th November 2014 to 4th December 2014 and was divided into 6 age-related sections ranging from Under-7 to Under-17.

Max was selected as a member of the England team (pictured below) (Max is fifth from the left in the picture).

Posted 14th December 2014 ChessPoint Juniors perform well at the NSCA Junior Congress The 35th Northants Junior Congress took place at the Malcolm Arnold Academy on 22nd November 2014. In the Under-9 section,Troy Anderson (left, in the picture opposite) finished joint runner-up with 5 points from 6 games. Krishna Srinivasan finished joint 4th on 4½ points. Other scores from this event included: Under 10's Patrick Gibbons - 4 Aashish Reddy - 4 Besnick Osmani - 3 Vignesh Sudhakar - 3 Under 11's Jaime Weingard - 4½ Callum Willsher - 4 Under 12's Jordi Weingard - 3

ChessPoint finish 2nd in Junior 4NCL Round 1

ChessPoint are 2nd out of 28 teams after the 1st of 3 weekends of the 2014-2015 Junior 4NCL, played at Daventry Court Hotel on 4th and 5th October 2014. The team, comprising Owen Robinson, Ryan Reed, Max Miller and David Collyer, scored 8 points out of a possible 10 from 5 matches. Max Miller selected to represent England in the World Schools Chess Championship

Max Miller, the U-11 Northamptonshire County Champion, has been selected as one of England's Under-11 players at the 2014 World Schools Chess Championship at Juiz de Fora, Brazil from 26th November to 4th December 2014. Success for ChessPoint at the NSCA Championships 2014

Chesspoint dominate Junior County Championships at Malcolm Arnold Academy on Saturday 1st Feb.

Krishna Srinivasan is now the under 8 County Champion, scoring 4½ out of 6 and will also be invited to join the county team. Max Miller is now the under 11 County Champion, winning all 6 games. David Collyer is now the under 14 County Champion, scoring 4 out of 6. Callum Willsher scored 2½ which is very good for his first competition.

The Northants County Junior Chess Championships took place on Saturday,4th Feb. at The Malcolm Arnold Academy. Max Miller who attends Great Houghton school, won the under 8 title for the second time, making him the only person to be named on the trophy twice. David Collyer from Daventry, won the under 11 title, both Max and David attend The Chesspoint Academy, which is run by volunteer chess coaches every Saturday, you can turn up anytime between 11am and 4pm, and we are currently based at The Library, Northampton Academy School, Wellingborough Road Northampton NN3 8NH.

Chesspoint was founded by the late Tony Robson, and is for adults and juniors, so if you want to learn to play chess, or improve your game, or just play chess (which is the second most played game in the world, after soccer) or come along and see if you can beat one of our county champions. CONGRATULATIONS

Sam Judge and Max Miller were part of Mr. Warren’s under 9 County team on Saturday at Nottingham for the Midlands Championships. They finished 2 points clear of the top Nottingham team to become the Midlands Champions. The last time Northants achieved this was back in 1985! They now go to Essex this Saturday for the qualifier for the national finals.

Samuel Libertiny and Nathan Judge were part of the under 11s team who came third.

Congratulations to Nathan Judge/Max Miller/Samuel Libertiny and David Collyer who won first place in the Junior Four Nations Chess League Team Championships at The Barceló Hotel Hinckley on the 21st-22nd Jan. This event is usually won by Yateley Manor School in Hampshire, where every pupil has to learn to play chess, and one of their teacher's is a international chess master, so out of the seven teams they sent this time, their A team was favorite to win.

After the first four rounds on Saturday, we were in the lead by two points after round five on Sunday that lead was down to half a point round six, we were 1½, points behind the leaders, and one of four teams who could possibly win, going into the final round. We won the trophy by half a point.

The team was made up of three players from Great Houghton and one from Chesspoints, the chess club I help to run on Saturday's (details on the school notice board in the archway) or our website: chesspoint.neocities.org/chesspointservices.html.

For those players who play for the county team, this Saturday's training session will take place at the Chesspoints venue: St. John's House 33 Billing Road Northampton NN1 5DQ

Young chess champ dedicates win to his late mentor

A YOUNG chess champion from Northampton has dedicated his latest accolade to his chess mentor who recently died.

Max Miller, aged seven, from Great Billing and a pupil at Great Houghton School, has jointly won the South of England Junior Chess Championships for his age group, which took place in Hampshire.

His father, David Miller, paid tribute to Tony Robson, of Chesspoints, who died aged 71 on January 11 this year, for his role in his son's chess success.

He said: "Tony Robson was the driving force behind Chesspoints which took place all over Northampton and from which Max has benefited."

"He was Max's mentor and was the one to first suggest that he entered and we want to dedicate this award to him."

A service of thanks giving for Mr Robson will be held at All Saints' Church, Northampton on Friday from 1.30pm.
